Well, RBA couldn’t close the deal. Another loss. Up 3*-0 in the second set tiebreak… and gave it right back.
Onto today. Hopefully, I can course correct this.
Next week is an off week. I probably need it. Look for a podcast Sunday April 7th!
I feel like re-posting my write-up from Wimbledon. Or the one from the Tour Finals. Federer should own Anderson. Their four matches prior to Wimbledon weren’t close. And the match at the tour finals last fall wasn’t close. Fed was up two sets to love at Wimbledon too before he tightened up and fell apart.
Fed should roll here. I’ve been clear I believe he going to go full tilt this spring/summer as he gears up for a (potentially) final stab at Wimbledon. Just like in Dubai, Fed has started slow, dropping some sets, only to pick it up late, as he crushed Medvedev yesterday. Anderson is just back from a lengthy absence and he hasn’t looked overly dominant - he dropped a set to Munar and was pushed over ten games by Sousa and twice by Thompson. Also Munar, Sousa and Thompson are hardly heavyweight opponents.
It’s expensive but I’ll back Federer to roll through Anderson on a slower surface.
I am actively avoiding Tiafoe matches - back to my 2018 strategy. Tennis wins either way here. Would love to see either Shapo or Tiafoe matchup with Fed tomorrow.
Federer -3.5, -150
