NFC West

The second of our eight previews brought us to the west coast, where I’ve been trying to make money fading Russell Wilson’s poor surrounding cast for years, to little or no success. It’s hard to really predict a Super Bowl hangover, but the Rams might have all they can handle with Russ still around, Jimmy coming back and all kinds of excitement down in the desert. The Podcast, in case you missed it:

Los Angeles Rams

WHAT WE LIKE:

  • They went to the Super Bowl. It’s a good damn team!

  • Still have a ton of high-end players on both sides of the ball

  • Going into the season with a healthy kicker

WHAT WE HATE:

  • Losing some of the interior offensive line

  • Gurley’s questionable future

DEEP DIVE CONSENSUS:

Could be a great team, but in a deep conference (possibly a deep division), we’re not afraid to fade them to repeat their playoff success.

Seattle Seahawks

Seattle.JPG

WHAT WE LIKE:

  • Russell Wilson is magic, won’t convince me otherwise

  • They still have a great home field advantage

  • Didn’t draft a RB in the 1st round this year

WHAT WE HATE:

  • WR corps is thin, TE Ed Dickson is already hurt and not sure the Metcalf pick was a great fit

  • The run entirely too much for a team with an elite QB

DEEP DIVE CONSENSUS:

I’ve been down on their play-calling, roster-building, and general philosophy for a few years, but fading them has been a tough proposition with Russ under center. I think it’s finally time for it to pay off and we’ll be looking at some Seattle RSW unders.

San Francisco 49ers

49ers.JPG

WHAT WE LIKE:

  • Not as injured hopefully (this isn’t starting well)

  • Jimmy G starting 16 games should bring them into the playoff conversation

  • Schedule should be easier

WHAT WE HATE:

  • Young WR Corps

  • Worst turnover margin in the league last year, needs to turn around to have a chance

DEEP DIVE CONSENSUS:

I’d say we are cautiously optimistic. This team should be getting the same hype as last year, and absolutely has a chance to push L.A. in the division race.

Arizona Cardinals

Cardinals.JPG

WHAT WE LIKE:

  • Maybe the Air Raid works really well and it surprises everyone

WHAT WE HATE:

  • Maybe the Air Raid falls flat on its face and they are awful again

DEEP DIVE CONSENSUS:

Most likely it’s something in between, but this team is a tough read due to a total overhaul of the offense. This team has been talked about more than most and I’m not sure what we can add before seeing the offense in some real game situations. Likely a high variance team, but I lean towards this being a learning year with some pretty hefty bumps in the road.
